Darkness Falls takes the Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1)

Darkness Falls won the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, beating the 10/11 favourite Desert Castle at 6/4.

Aidan O’Brien’s colt, ridden by Ryan Moore, had already taken the Golden Fleece at Leopardstown.
He dropped back to seven furlongs here and still had too much for Charlie Appleby’s unbeaten Desert Castle,
the Champagne Stakes winner, with William Buick up.

The race was run on good ground. First prize is £283,550.

It leaves Darkness Falls with a second Group 1 and a clear claim on next year’s Guineas picture.
