Drumbeat wins the Zetland by five and a half lengths

Drumbeat, the 10/11 favourite, took the Group 3 Native Trail Zetland Stakes at Newmarket by five and a half lengths under Ryan Moore.

The 200,000 guineas colt, bred by Barronstown Stud, is by Wootton Bassett out of the South African Group 1 winner Cloth Of Cloud. He runs for Aidan O’Brien, Ballydoyle and Coolmore. He came into the race off a third in the Beresford and stretched clear over the mile and a quarter.

Wykehurst Park was second for Andrew Balding, two lengths in front of Apulia Bay.

O’Brien said afterwards that he is a mile-and-a-quarter and mile-and-a-half horse with pace. He could go to Saint-Cloud for the Group 1s at a mile or a mile and a quarter, and next year he will start in a Derby trial.
