Jockey Jack Nicholls upheld family tradition in the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines when delivering Miss Yechance with a perfectly-executed run. The three-year-old filly by Cotai Glory emulated the 2002 success of his grandfather’s Continent in the five-furlong dash.
The 73-10 chance was swiftly into stride and raced to the fore in a prominent second as Ponntos occupied his usual pacesetting role at the head of affairs. Gaining an edge soon after passing halfway, she refused to surrender her advantage and was ridden out to withstand the late charge of Shiri by a neck.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained G1 King Charles III hero Mission Central also raced prominently throughout, but lacked the necessary kick in the latter stages and finished a neck back in third.
Miss Yechance becomes the fourth Group 1 winner for her sire and is a half-sister to a weanling colt by Starman and the dual-winning two-year-old colt Barnaby Rudge. She is the first of three foals and one of two scorers produced by a winning half-sister to stakes-winning GII Yellow Ribbon Handicap runner-up Fuente Ovejuna.
Her second dam Lipstick Rose is a daughter of G3 Prix d’Aumale third Nawal and thus kin to four black-type performers headed by GI Hollywood Gold Cup-winning sire Mast Track and G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Jemayel.
The G1 Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines was run over five furlongs on turf at ParisLongchamp. Miss Yechance covered the distance in 55.08 seconds on ground described as good to soft.
