Green Empress, was superb for Joseph O’Brien at Longchamp

Green Empress, was superb for Joseph O’Brien at ParisLongchamp today, taking the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac and giving Owning Hill another Group 1 on Arc day.
The two-year-old filly, ridden by Christophe Soumillon, won the Group 1 over 1,600 metres on good-to-soft ground. She hit the front inside the final half-furlong and held Christopher Head’s Data by a head, with Francis Graffard’s Queen Of The Day a further length and a quarter back in third. She was the market leader, returned at 2.60 on the French tote. The race was worth €400,000.
She has never finished outside the first two. Sun Goddess is the only filly to have beaten her, and has done so three times: on debut at the Curragh in May, in the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes, and in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. Between those defeats she broke her maiden and took the Group 2 Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes at the Curragh on 22 August. She is by Saxon Warrior out of the Sea The Stars mare Sea Empress, and races for The Thoroughbred Racing Corporation Ltd.
O’Brien described the win as special on this day and called her progressive. He sees her as a miler who may stay ten furlongs later, and said the owners will decide whether she goes to the Breeders’ Cup or is kept for next year. At The Races noted that Spirit Tango suffered an injury in the race.
