Colin Keane is hoping history will repeat itself with Kalpana after the filly finished fifth in Sunday’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
The multiple Group One winner could only manage seventh in Paris twelve months earlier but recovered impressively two weeks later to win at Ascot on British Champions Day.
Kalpana is set to return to Ascot once again, where she will attempt to claim the Qatar Racing British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes for a third time.
Keane told Tattersalls that Kalpana finished fifth without running badly, though he was never really comfortable during the race.
“Even though we didn’t go overly mad, I was as close as could be kind of the whole way and I plugged away up straight to be fifth,” he said.
He added that he hopes the race will leave her right for the Fillies & Mares at Ascot, similar to last year.
Keane was celebrating success in Paris, securing a second Group One victory of the weekend for his Juddmonte retainers.
Amusingly beat the boys in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagadere, a performance Keane described as very good.
“She couldn’t have been any better. She came from last first in a matter of his strides,” he said of the filly’s strong showing.
Keane noted that while taking on the boys looked like a strong field, Amusingly showed her class and pace.
