Ezeliya, This Year’s Oaks Winner, Retired to Stud

Ezeliya, the winner of this year’s Oaks, has been officially retired to stud. The announcement was made by Aga Khan Studs on Saturday morning.

Setback Leads to Retirement

The statement revealed that Ezeliya experienced a training setback earlier in the week. Consequently, it was decided that she would retire to Gilltown Stud to become part of the esteemed Aga Khan broodmare band.

Statements from Aga Khan Studs and Trainer

Pat Downes, manager of the Aga Khan Studs in Ireland, expressed his thoughts on the early retirement:

“It is a pity to have to retire such a talented filly so early in her career, but it would have been a challenge to prepare her for another race in the autumn. Her wellbeing is the paramount concern for His Highness and Princess Zahra, and she will make a wonderful addition to the broodmare band”

Ezeliya’s Racing Achievements

Ezeliya began her career impressively, winning her maiden race at the age of two. In 2024, she made a triumphant seasonal debut by winning the Group 3 Salsabil Stakes. Her most notable achievement came a month later when she secured a three-length victory in the Oaks at Epsom, marking the first victory in this classic for her owner-breeder, the Aga Khan.
